What is collagen and why is it important?

Collagen is one of the body’s principal structural proteins and a fundamental component of connective tissues. It forms part of the natural structure of the skin, bones, tendons and cartilage, helping to provide strength, elasticity and resilience.

The body’s collagen production may naturally decline with age. Adequate protein and vitamin intake therefore remains an important part of a varied, balanced diet.

The role of collagen supplementation

Hydrolysed collagen consists of smaller peptides that can be conveniently incorporated into the diet. Collagen supplementation is not a substitute for a balanced diet, but it may complement daily protein intake as part of a health-conscious lifestyle.

The five collagen types

Type I is a major structural protein of the skin, bones, tendons and ligaments. Type II is a natural component of cartilage. Type III is associated with the structure of the skin and connective tissues. Types V and X occur in a range of structural tissues, including bone and cartilage.

Recommended use

Dissolve the recommended daily serving (1.5 measuring scoops / 16.6 g) in 250-350 ml of cold water while stirring thoroughly. The drink may be diluted further to taste without changing the amount of active ingredients. Preferably consume after a meal. Continuous use for 2-3 months is recommended, followed by a two-week break.

Preparation tips

• Add the liquid gradually while stirring to minimise clumping.
• Cold water generally provides a fresher taste, although very cold water may increase the dissolving time.
• A shaker with a mixing grid can help the powder dissolve evenly. Mild foaming may occur and will subside.
• Keep the measuring scoop completely dry and reseal the pouch after every use.

Hydrolysed collagen extracts (bovine, porcine, fish, chicken and eggshell membrane origin), glucosamine sulphate, flavourings (orange, banana), acidity regulator (citric acid), methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), chondroitin sulphate, L-ascorbic acid, sodium hyaluronate, anti-caking agent (tricalcium phosphate), devil’s claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) root extract, turmeric (Curcuma longa) root extract, sweeteners (steviol glycosides, sucralose).

Country of origin of the primary ingredient: Argentina. Food-grade collagen suitable for human consumption.

Manufacturing statement

Wheat and other sources of gluten, soya, eggs, milk and milk-derived ingredients are not used in the manufacturing facility.

Warnings

Not suitable for individuals who are allergic or sensitive to fish, molluscs and/or crustaceans. Consumption is not recommended for people with gallstones due to the product’s choleretic effect. It may increase the risk of bleeding in people taking anticoagulant medication. Not suitable during pregnancy due to a possible uterine-contracting effect. Contraindicated in cases of gastric or duodenal ulcer. Gastrointestinal discomfort or diarrhoea may occur. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake.
